How the Madrid Segway Tour Works
Four steps from the Retiro Magic meeting point through training, the Crystal Palace, the Fallen Angel fountain, and the Alfonso XII colonnade — then back with insider tips on Madrid's centro historico.
Meet at Retiro Magic on Avenida Menendez Pelayo
Meet at Retiro Magic | Actividades al aire libre on Avenida Menendez Pelayo 9, on the south-east edge of Retiro Park (40.4214N, 3.6884W). Arrive 15 minutes early for paperwork and the safety briefing — Metro Ibiza (Line 9) and Metro Principe de Vergara (Line 2 and 9) are the closest stops.
Segway Training & Safety Briefing
Your guide walks every rider through 5 minutes of self-balancing segway training on a flat area inside the park — turning, stopping, slow speed. Even first-timers are riding confidently before the tour starts.
Glide the Royal Monuments Loop
Roll past the Estanque boating lake, the monument to Alfonso XII, the Crystal Palace (Palacio de Cristal), the Velazquez Palace, the Fountain of the Fallen Angel — Europe's only public monument to Lucifer — and the Rosaleda rose garden. Your guide narrates Madrid's royal history the whole way.
Wrap Up With Centro Historico Tips
Return to Retiro Magic and pick up your guide's personal shortlist for the rest of your Madrid day — which tapas streets are worth it, where to catch flamenco without a tourist trap, the best Royal Palace tour slot. Total tour: 60 minutes, 8+ stops.

What Guests Say About the Madrid Segway Tour
"Our guide Allen was supportive, encouraging and gentle. We’ve been on Segways before but it was good to be taken through the getting on/off routine and steering etc which he did mindful that we were not novices. We were extremely lucky with the weather, blue skies, sunshine and dry if a bit cold - perfect for a Segway in the Park. We stopped a few times and Allen told us about the features and history of the Retiro and took our photograph. A fun hour in the company of 6 others - a positive experience I’d recommend to others."

"Honestly, the tour was way more fun than I expected. It was such a cool way to explore the park without getting tired. El Retiro is huge, so being on a Segway meant we got to see so much more than I would have on foot. We passed the Crystal Palace, the lake with the little boats, and a bunch of beautiful hidden corners we probably would’ve missed on our own. Allen, our guide, was friendly and chill, not overly formal, and shared fun facts and stories while keeping the vibe light and enjoyable. It felt more like hanging out and exploring than being on a strict tour. Overall, it was a really fun, laid-back experience and a nice break from the usual walking around the city. If you’re in Madrid and want to try something different, I’d definitely recommend it, it’s easy, unique, and just a good time."
"excellent tour and great staff. the staff at Madrid Segway were really friendly and helpful. we turned up early and they were able to accommodate us. Alan the tour guide was a great laugh and had great knowledge. this was the first time I used a segway but absolutely loved it. would highly recommend this tour. Just wish it was longer."

"Felipe was an excellent guide, he gave our family a memorable tour of the park."

Other Madrid segway tours range from 1 hour (City Center Guided, City Center Fun, Madrid by Night, Chocolate & Churros) to 1.5 hours (Retiro Park 1.5-Hour, Madrid Downtown, Madrid River, Lavapiés & City Center, Madrid Retro) to 2 hours (Retiro Park Segway, City Center & Casa de Campo, Madrid Rio Park Private, Private Off-Road Casa de Campo) or up to 3 hours for the All Madrid Guided Segway. Arrive 15 minutes early — the Retiro meeting point requires paperwork and the safety briefing before the tour starts.
Yes. The Iconic Retiro Park Segway Tour carries the GetYourGuide 'Top rated' badge and 900+ verified reviews — it sells out faster than the average Madrid tour, especially on weekends, during Semana Santa (Easter week), and in May (the San Isidro festival) and October (the high-shoulder season for European city breaks). Madrid summers are 35°C+ in July and August — most travellers book early-morning or evening slots that go fastest. Book online with free cancellation up to 24 hours before — that's standard across all 17 Madrid segway tours we list. See our month-by-month best-time guide for the peak booking windows and the optimal time-of-day slots.
The featured 1-hour Iconic Retiro Park tour covers 8+ monuments inside Retiro Park: the Estanque boating lake, the monument to Alfonso XII (the colonnade), the Crystal Palace (Palacio de Cristal — a glass-and-iron exhibition hall from 1887), the Velázquez Palace (Palacio de Velázquez), the Fountain of the Fallen Angel (the only public monument in Europe to Lucifer), the Rosaleda rose garden, the Puerta de Alcalá gate (visible from the start), and the central fountains and tree-lined promenades. For Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace (Palacio Real), Almudena Cathedral, Gran Vía, and the Habsburg medieval centre — switch to the City Center Guided Segway Tour or the extended 3-hour All Madrid Guided Segway. Our first-timer's guide walks through every stop in order, plus the eligibility and training details.
Yes. The City Center Guided Segway Tour ($29, 4.8/5 from 157 reviews, 1–1.5 hours) covers the Habsburg medieval centre — Plaza Mayor, the Royal Palace (Palacio Real), Almudena Cathedral, and the surrounding old town. The City Center 1-Hour Fun Segway Tour ($33, 5.0/5 from 23 reviews) is a shorter alternative. The Madrid Downtown Segway Tour ($45, 4.8/5 from 99 reviews, 1.5 hours) is the most thorough downtown ride. For the full Madrid grand tour — Retiro Park, Habsburg centre, and the Royal Palace area combined — the 3-hour All Madrid Guided Segway ($52) covers the most ground in one ride.
Yes. Casa de Campo is Madrid's biggest park (almost five times the size of New York's Central Park) and has an off-road segway trail. The Private Off-Road Segway Tour of Casa de Campo ($70, 4.9/5, 2 hours, private) is the premium option — you ride dirt trails through pine forest with a private guide and reach viewpoints overlooking the Royal Palace from across the Manzanares River. The Madrid River Segway Tour ($45, 5.0/5, 1.5 hours) follows the Madrid Río park along the Manzanares — easier terrain, great for couples and photographers. The City Center & Casa de Campo Segway combo ($45, 4.9/5, 2 hours) mixes both. Want to know the Spanish VMP law before riding? See our Madrid segway rules and regulations guide.
The featured Iconic Retiro Park Segway Tour meets at Retiro Magic | Actividades al aire libre, just inside the park near the Puerta de Alcalá gate (40.4214°N, 3.6884°W). Metro Retiro (Line 2, red) is the closest stop, three minutes' walk. The exact street address is in your booking confirmation. Other Madrid segway tours meet near Plaza Mayor / Royal Palace area (City Center, Downtown), at Madrid Río (River tour), or at the Casa de Campo trailhead (Off-Road). Plan to arrive 15 minutes early for paperwork and the safety briefing. See the first-timer's guide for arrival, training, and the full 8-stop loop in order.
Comfortable closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops, no high heels — the segway requires foot stability), weather-appropriate layers, sunglasses, and water. Madrid summers (June–August) are intensely hot at 35–40°C — pick the 09:00 or evening slots and bring sun cream. Winters (December–February) are dry-cold at 5–10°C; a windbreaker helps. Spring and autumn are the ideal segway seasons. Children under 9 are not allowed on most Madrid segway tours; check the age and weight limits in your booking. Helmets are provided. The tour runs in light rain but is cancelled (with refund) in storms. The month-by-month weather guide has the full picture on temperature, sunset times, and which slots actually fit each season.
By rating and review volume, the Top-Rated Iconic Retiro Park Segway Tour is the editorial choice — 4.8/5 from 900 verified reviews, $39, 1 hour, with the 'Top rated' GYG badge. For pure rating with a smaller sample, the Madrid City Center 1-Hour Fun Segway Tour ties at 5.0/5 (23 reviews, $33), Madrid by Night at 5.0/5 (22 reviews, $33), and Madrid River at 5.0/5 (32 reviews, $45). For the longest single ride, the 3-hour All Madrid Guided Segway ($52, 4.8/5 from 116 reviews) covers the most ground. For a premium private experience, the Off-Road Casa de Campo ($70, 4.9/5) is the editorial premium pick.
Walking tours in Madrid are 2.5–3 hours and cover roughly 3–4 km on foot — slower, more contact with street life, but tough in summer heat. Hop-on-hop-off buses ($25–35) are big-picture city overviews with pre-recorded audio — fast but route-locked and impersonal. Segway tours sit in between: 1–2 hours, 8–15 km of ground covered, a live local guide narrating, and access to park paths and side streets a bus can't reach. For Retiro Park specifically, segway is the only motorised option (cars and bikes have restrictions); walking is the alternative but takes three times longer to cover the same monument loop. Our full segway vs walking vs bike comparison breaks down which option fits which kind of traveller.
Based on the Iconic Retiro Park tour's 4.8/5 from 900 verified reviews and the GYG 'Top rated' badge, yes — guests consistently call it the most efficient way to see Retiro Park's monuments without exhausting themselves walking. For $39 you get a 60-minute guided ride covering 8+ landmarks, a local English-speaking madrileño guide who actually lives in Madrid, full safety training, and a personal centro histórico shortlist at the end. Compared to a free self-guided walk of the park, the segway saves about 90 minutes of walking and adds the guide's narration. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before keeps the risk low.
